Robert Plant nixes another Led Zeppelin doc, has no plan for memoir or biopic

The recent documentary Becoming Led Zeppelin focused on the band’s career up until the release of their second album, 1969’s Led Zeppelin II, and it sounds like fans shouldn’t hold out hope for a second part focused on the rest of their career.

In an interview with Rolling Stone about his upcoming new album, Saving Grace, Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant revealed that he doesn’t think a second part is necessary.

“I think the fact that it ended before we needed to take a shave in the morning was probably the most appropriate,” he told the magazine. “I think that kind of shook up the joyous instance of everything, and then we had to go out and buy a razor, and that was it.”

And Plant doesn’t have any plans to delve into his personal life either, telling the mag there’s “not a chance” he’ll write a memoir.

“I’m going down with the ship, and so is my memory,” he said.

While artists like Queen and Elton John have had successful biopics made about their life and career, Plant isn’t interested in having one made about Led Zeppelin.

“No chance,” he said when asked if he’d ever agree to it. “I’m back on the ship, and I’m going down with it.”

Saving Grace, Plant’s first album with the acoustic band of the same name, featuring vocalist Suzi Dian, is due out Sept. 26.

The artwork of Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart will be the subject of a new exhibit in San Francisco.

Mickey Hart: Art at the Edge of Magic will open at the Haight Street Art Center on July 24. An opening ceremony is set for July 31, the night before Dead & Company’s three-night stand in Golden Gate Park celebrating 60 years of the Grateful Dead.

The exhibit, Hart’s first in a San Francisco-based museum, will feature close to 100 paintings and prints on a variety of surfaces, including canvas, paper, metal drumheads and cymbals. The exhibit includes two large paintings mounted into walls like picture windows, as well as a musical audio experience to complement the installation.

“We could not be more excited to showcase the work of Mickey Hart,” said Kelly Harris, executive director of the Haight Street Art Center. “We have always gravitated to art that transforms and transports viewers. Hart’s entire musical career has been devoted to doing just that, while his art of the past several decades has expanded this ethos into the visual realm.”

David Byrne drops ‘She Explains Things to Me’ from upcoming solo album ‘Who is the Sky?’

David Byrne drops ‘She Explains Things to Me’ from upcoming solo album ‘Who is the Sky?’
Matador Records

David Byrne has shared another track from his upcoming solo album, Who is the Sky?, which is his first album since 2018’s American Utopia.

The latest is “She Explains Things to Me,” described as partially inspired by Rebecca Solnit’s 2014 collection of essays, Men Explain Things to Me.

“Many times I have marveled at how a friend (usually a female friend) seems to clock what is going on in a film between characters way before I do,” says Byrne. “Sometimes I understand poetry, but sometimes I need help. Though inspired by the Solnit book Men Explain Things to Me, there is a huge difference – mansplaining is usually unasked for, in this case I am the one asking.”

“She Explains Things to Me” is available now via digital outlets.

Who is the Sky? will be released Sept. 5 and is available for preorder now. The album features special guests St. Vincent, Paramore’s Hayley Williams and The Smile drummer Tom Skinner.

Byrne will kick off a new North American tour in support of the album on Sept. 14 in Providence, Rhode Island. He’ll wrap up the tour in Miami Dec. 5 and 6. He recently added some new shows to the trek, including a third show in Philadelphia, a fourth in Chicago and a third in San Francisco. A complete list of dates can be found at DavidByrne.com.

A new trailer has been released for the upcoming documentary about the late singer Jeff Buckley.

It’s Never Over: Jeff Buckley, directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Amy Berg, follows the late singer’s life and career, which was highlighted by his critically acclaimed debut album, Grace, which came out in 1994.

The directors of Billy Joel: And So It Goes recently opened up about the making of the new HBO documentary and provided an update on the legendary singer’s health.

Joel, who has been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus, a brain disorder that affects his vision, hearing and balance, is currently undergoing physical therapy to regain his health and return to performing.

“He’s doing physical therapy, he’s healing, he’s working on getting better,” said Susan Lacy, one of the doc’s two directors, during an interview with Good Morning America that aired on Wednesday.

This update follows the cancellation of several of Joel’s shows due to his diagnosis, leaving fans concerned about his health and future performances.

The documentary offers a rare and intimate look into Joel’s life, exploring both the highs and lows of his personal and professional journey.

From childhood struggles to the iconic songs that have defined his career, the film delves deep into not only Joel’s musical genius but also the challenges he faced behind the scenes.

Billy Joel: And So It Goes is not only a celebration of his music but also a reflection on his tumultuous childhood, including the absence of his father and the joy he found in music, despite early challenges.

“His mother knew that Billy had a gift, and she made sure he had those piano lessons,” Jessica Levin, the documentary’s other co-director, told GMA.

Levin also reflected on the personal approach she and Lacy took to tell Joel’s story.

“Billy trusted two women to tell his story and we’re quite proud of that,” she said. “And I think we were able to really reveal a side of him that another set of filmmakers may or may not have been able to.”

Billy Joel: And So It Goes will premiere in two parts on HBO on July 18 and July 25.

The Godfather of Punk meets the Man of Steel in the new Superman movie.

The closing credits to the James Gunn-directed film are soundtracked by the song “Punkrocker,” a 2006 collaboration between Iggy Pop and the Swedish band Teddybears.

In reacting to Superman‘s use of “Punkrocker,” Pop tells The Hollywood Reporter, “I always thought the track had soul.”

“Superman is the best friend you could have,” the “Lust for Life” rocker adds.

Superman, starring David Corenswet as the titular hero and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, is in theaters now. In addition to featuring “Punkrocker” on the soundtrack, the movie includes a scene discussing the true meaning of punk rock.
