Elton John fans know that he loves collecting things, especially fine art photography. His photography collection rivals that of most museums, but now, it’s coming to a museum.

London’s Victoria & Albert Museum has announced that an exhibit called Fragile Beauty: Photographs from the Sir Elton John and David Furnish Collection will open May 18.

According to the Evening Standard, the photos will be organized across eight themes, including fashion, celebrity, the male body, American photography and historical images documenting the Civil Rights Movement, the AIDS activism of the 1980s and the 9/11 terror attacks.

Legendary photographers like Robert Mapplethorpe, Cindy Sherman, Diane Arbus are all represented, and there are celebrity portraits of icons like Marilyn Monroe and Miles Davis, among others.

Fragile Beauty takes our collaboration to really exciting new heights, showcasing some of the most beloved photographers and iconic images,” Elton said in a statement, per the Evening Standard.

This isn’t the first time Elton has had items from his collection displayed in a museum. In 2016 and 2017, London’s Tate Museum featured an exhibit called The Radical Eye: Modernist Photography from the Sir Elton John Collection.

Possibly the coolest couple of all time is now reportedly married.

According to TMZ, Frances Bean Cobain, the daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, and Riley Hawk, the son of skateboarding icon Tony Hawk, wed in a Los Angeles ceremony October 7. If those names aren’t impressive enough, TMZ says R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe, who’s Frances’ godfather, officiated the ceremony.

Frances confirmed her relationship with Riley in an Instagram post on New Year’s Day 2022.

“I wanted to share a few moments that were captured / created this past year that brought me a great amount of joy,” Frances captioned the post, which included photos of her and Riley.

Frances was previously married to Isaiah Silva. Their contentious divorce made headlines due to a battle over Kurt’s legendary MTV Unplugged guitar, which Silva came away with in the settlement. The guitar was later auctioned off for a record-breaking $6 million.

Writer Michael Azerrad hopes to further “demystify” Nirvana with ‘The Amplified Come As You Are’

Writer Michael Azerrad hopes to further “demystify” Nirvana with ‘The Amplified Come As You Are’
Harper One

Writer Michael Azerrad has released a newly annotated version of Come As You Are, his 1993 biography of Nirvana, the only book to feature original interviews with Kurt CobainKrist Novoselic and Dave Grohl.

The project, dubbed The Amplified Come As You Are, began after Azerrad decided to revisit one of the many legends told about the late Cobain and how it held up so many years later.

“I decided, ‘Oh, well let’s just see if there’s anything else I have something to say about,'” Azerrad tells ABC Audio. “I flipped over to page one of the book and, sure enough, on page one, there was absolutely something I just had to say … two years later I’d gone through the whole book.”

Throughout The Amplified Come As You Are, Azerrad comments on themes that recur throughout the original book, such as how Cobain would often mythologize the villains in his life. It also brought into stark relief the number of times Cobain mentions suicide or self-harm in his interviews with Azerrad, which the author says he did not take seriously enough at the time.

“Now I will take it seriously if that ever happens again, and I urge the reader to take it very seriously, as well,” Azerrad says.

Overall, Azerrad wants both versions of Come As You Are to portray Cobain as a real person, as someone who simply loved music and made it to “make him feel better, and, by extension, hopefully the audience feel better.”

“That was the mission statement for me for the original Come As You Are, to demystify the people who made this music and show that ordinary people can do extraordinary things, and The Amplified Come As You Are just goes even deeper into that,” Azerrad says.
