Neil Young explains why he sold his publishing catalog

(Note Language) Neil Young is one of the many artists who in recent years have sold the publishing rights to their catalog, and for him, doing so was a no brainer.

“I wanted to sell my songs because I don’t have to worry about a f****** thing now,” he tells Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1. “I don’t have to do anything I don’t want to do. I’ve got the end of my life to go out doing exactly what it is I want to do and not doing what I don’t want to do.”

Neil adds, “That’s the way I feel about it. I don’t have to go on a tour if I don’t want to go on a tour.”

But even with the sale, Neil insists he doesn’t want to hear his music “associated with a product or with a movement or with a politician or with a sport or with anything,” adding, “I like the songs to be the songs.”

And fans shouldn’t think the sale means Neil’s about to stop making music. “It’s what I have to do. I want to do this,” he says. “That’s why there’s 51, 52 albums because I want to do this and I can still feel it. I’d be crazy to stop.”

Ozzy Osbourne feels “overwhelmed” by Grammy nominations: “It’s pretty great to be acknowledged

Ozzy Osbourne feels “overwhelmed” by Grammy nominations: “It’s pretty great to be acknowledged
CBS/Recording Academy

Ozzy Osbourne feels “overwhelmed” after he received four Grammy nominations Tuesday.

The Prince of Darkness’ latest solo record, Patient Number 9, is up for Best Rock Album, while its Jeff Beck-featuring title track will compete for the Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance awards. Additionally, the track “Degradation Rules,” which features Ozzy’s Black Sabbath bandmate Tony Iommi, is nominated for Best Metal Performance.

“It’s pretty great to be acknowledged at this point in my career,” Ozzy says.

Ozzy singles out the “Degradation Rules” nod, in particular, as “such great news.”

“That song would’ve made a great Black Sabbath track,” Ozzy says. “It’s a very well-structured song.”

“I’ve known Tony since I was 12 years old and I’m glad to say we’ve continued a really good friendship,” he adds. “Tony’s been very supportive of me while I’ve been recovering from surgery. He’s been in constant contact, which has been great.”

The 2023 Grammys will take place February 5 in Los Angeles.

Journey’s Neal Schon fumes, accuses rock cruise of ripping off ‘Escape’ cover

(Note Language) Neal Schon isn’t happy that someone is copying the cover of Journey’s 1981 album, Escape. The guitarist has called out the Cruise to the Edge festival, accusing promoters of ripping off the image.

The Escape cover features a spaceship exploding out of a planet, leaving shattered pieces of it in its path, while the poster for Cruise to the Edge, a prog rock festival featuring Steve Hackett, Big Big Train and more, is only slightly different. It also has a spaceship bursting out of a planet, although the ship is slightly different in shape.

Well, the similarities were not missed by Schon, who shared his disdain, tweeting, “What the f*** do people think? That your (sic) not going to see this? It’s a blatant rip off.” The tweet includes a pic of the Cruise to the Edge announcement along with Schon’s comment on the pic, which reads “Give me a f***** break. It’s Journeys (sic) Escape art.”

Bob King/Redferns

INXS released their first album in the ‘80s and are definitely eligible for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, so their fans, who are sick of just waiting to see them get in, are trying to do something about it.

A trio of fans, dubbed “Team Induct INXS,” have started a change.org petition titled “Induct INXS into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,” making their case for why the band deserves to be in the esteemed institution.

“After many years of amazing music and dynamic ‘live’ performances, it’s time to ensure the legacy of one of the greatest bands in the world – INXS!” the petition by Dina Ghram, Shanon Steele and Jim Skivalidas reads. They also created a website to assure fans “we were taking this induction campaign seriously.”

The trio tell Billboard, “All three of us are big music fans and have a deep appreciation of bands that have touched our lives and inspired us throughout the years,” noting, “INXS is at the top of all three of our lists – we’ve grown up with them, seen them ‘live’, bought all their albums, and come to think of INXS as a family of sorts.”

As of Wednesday morning, the petition had roughly 11,000 of the 15,000 signatures it’s aiming for.

Some long-lost Todd Rundgren recordings are finally set to see the light of day in a new box set. Lost Masters and Demos, being released December 2 by Purple Pyramid Records, features music from Rundgren’s ‘60s power-pop/psych project Nazz.

The set features music from the original master acetates of Nazz’s sophomore album, Nazz Nazz, which Rundgren originally conceived as a 26-song double LP. These early recordings never made it on the album, and most of the songs wound up on the band’s third release, III.

Lost Masters & Demos will be released in both a three-CD and four-LP set and will include alternate mixes of Nazz’s debut single, “Open My Eyes,” along with Rundgren’s future hit “Hello, It’s Me.” The first single from the set, “Forget All About Now,” is out now on all digital platforms.

The set also contains a full-color booklet of liner notes written by music historian Michael Armes, along with lots of rare photos.

John Mellencamp appears to have a new woman in his life. Us Weekly reports the 71-year-old rocker is dating 44-year-old skin care expert Marianelly Agosto.

A source tells the mag the pair “met through Teddi,” referring to Mellencamp’s daughter Teddi Mellencamp, of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. The insider adds they “have been on and off” and most recently reunited in late August.

Teddi seemed to confirm the relationship by sharing a photo of them earlier this month at an event together, although the source says their age difference could be a problem, noting, “she is much younger, 27 years his junior.”

Of course, Mellencamp is no stranger to relationships. He’s been married three times and was also engaged to Meg Ryan after eight years of on-and-off dating. The romance officially ended in October 2019.

Paulina Porizkova opens up about Ric Ocasek’s death, being left out of will

Paulina Porizkova opens up about Ric Ocasek’s death, being left out of will
Jordan Fisher

Many people were surprised to learn that Ric Ocasek didn’t leave anything in his will to estranged wife Paulina Porizkova — and that includes Paulina.

The supermodel appears on the latest episode of the Facebook series Red Table Talk, and in a preview, she opens up about the moment she found out the late Cars frontman had written her out of his will.

Following Ocasek’s death on September 15, 2019, Porizkova says she was picking out something to dress him in for his coffin when she discovered an envelope labeled “this is the will and testament.” She said the document specifically said, “I will not provide for my wife because she’s abandoned me.”

She says her first thought was, “That’s a lie. … Somebody made a mistake.” Despite their separation in 2017, Paulina had been living with the rocker while he recovered from surgery.

In another clip, Porizkova discusses finding Ocasek dead, sharing he had been recovering well after surgery for lung cancer and was feeling much better. She says he had been “feeling kinda tired” the night of his death; the next morning she didn’t think anything of him still being asleep because he “tended to sleep late” thanks to his “rockstar hours.” When he wasn’t up by 11 a.m. she went to bring him coffee; while he looked like he was sleeping, she says, “I saw his face. I saw his eyes. And they didn’t look like eyes anymore.”

The full episode of Porizkova’s Red Table Talk, co-hosted by Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield Norris, premieres Wednesday at 12 p.m. ET.
