Eurythmics star Annie Lennox appears on the new single “Superlover” from Americana star Allison Russell. The tune marks the first time Lennox has appeared on a song since 2018’s “Requiem for a Private War,” from the movie A Private War.

“Thank you Annie Lennox for singing with me, for inspiring me,” Russell shares. “You are an Artist of The Ages. I love you so. I bless the day we met. Our Circle is Unbroken.”

Lennox notes that she met Russell when they were both invited by Brandi Carlile to take part in one of Joni Mitchell’s concerts.

“Allison and I were sitting next to each other and I knew right away that she was a very special person. She has such natural warmth and generosity of spirit,” Lennox shares. “A beautiful person, both inside and out, as well as having an absolute heart of gold.”

As for the song, Lennox says it’s “one of the most soulful, compassionate songs you could ever hear, at a point when there’s too much dissonance, polarization, aggressivity and hatred being openly bandied around the globe.”

She adds, “It’s an appeal for kindness and empathy, as opposed to violence and cruelty. … It is medicine for the times and balm for the soul.”

“Superlover” is available now via digital outlets. You can watch the track’s video on YouTube.

Lennox, who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022 with her Eurythmics partner Dave Stewart, released her last album of new music, Nostalgia, in 2014.

They were known for their explosive live shows, which featured pyrotechnics, lasers and more. They were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2008 and Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2019.

On This Day, March 25, 1947: Elton John was born

Reginald Kenneth Dwight was born in Pinner, Middlesex, England. In 1967, he began using the name Elton John (he legally changed it to Elton Hercules John in 1972). He would go on to become one of the most beloved and successful recording artists in the world.

Elton’s long and successful partnership with songwriter Bernie Taupin, which started in 1967, has produced more than 50 top-40 hits, including nine #1 singles in both the U.S. and U.K. He’s also had seven Billboard #1 albums in the U.S., his first being 1972’s Honky Château.

Known for being a dynamic live performer, Elton wrapped his touring career in July 2023, playing the final date of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in Sweden. The tour, which launched in 2018, grossed over $939.1 million and is the second highest-grossing tour of all time.

Elton has won numerous awards throughout his career, including five Grammys, two Academy Awards and a Tony Award. He won his first Emmy Award in 2024, making him one of only 19 entertainers to win the EGOT.

He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2004. In March 2024, he and Taupin received the Library of Congress’ Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.

Elton is also well known for his philanthropic work, having raised over $375 million for the fight against HIV/AIDs through his Elton John AIDS Foundation, which he started in 1992.

And Bruce certainly has a connection to at least one song from Smith’s catalog. One of her best-known tunes, “Because the Night,” was co-written by Springsteen. It went to #13 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The concert will feature an A-list lineup of artists paying tribute to Smith, including R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, Ben Harper, Kim Gordon, The National‘s Matt Berninger, Karen O and Sharon Van Etten, as well as Courtney Barnett, Maggie Rogers and the KillsAlison Mosshart.

All artists will backed by a house band, made up of bassist/keyboardist Tony Shanahan from Smith’s band, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and Rolling Stones drummer Steve Jordan.

Tickets are available at musicof.org.

Heart’s Nancy Wilson gives biopic update, reveals dream casting

Heart’s Nancy Wilson gives biopic update, reveals dream casting

Heart revealed back in 2020 that a biopic on the group was in the works, and now Nancy Wilson is giving fans an update.

Nancy tells ABC Audio that Amazon Films is working with them on the script, which was written by Sleater-Kinney rocker Carrie Brownstein, and is now being worked on by Carrie and screenwriter Jessica Goldberg. She notes, “Amazon loves the script.”

“They’re about to start casting,” she adds. “I just think it’s gonna be a great story.”

And as casting gets underway, Nancy has some thoughts on who she’d love to see portray her and her sister and bandmate, Ann Wilson, in the film.

“If I had my druthers it would be Elle Fanning,” Nancy says of the actress she’d want to play her, noting she saw Elle in the Hulu series The Great and thought she was “insanely talented.”

And keeping it in the family, Nancy likes the idea of Dakota Fanning playing Ann.

“They both can sing, too, you never know,” she says, adding that she thinks Dakota would be a “kick-a** Ann Wilson.”

And the biopic may not be the only Heart film we’ll see on the big screen. Nancy shares there are “a bunch of people” interested in a documentary about Heart, as well.

In the meantime, Heart fans can catch the band on the road. Their Royal Flush tour hits Milwaukee on Wednesday. A complete list of dates can be found at heart-music.com.

A selection of special coins honoring The Beatles‘ Paul McCartney brought in over $750,000 at auction.

The rare currency auction house Stack’s Bowers Galleries handled the auction, which consisted of one gold and four silver pieces. Each weighed 5 kilograms, with all four bringing in a total of $753,600.

The gold one, which took 250 hours to make — including three days of polishing — was signed by the rocker during his 2024 Got Back tour in Paris. It sold for $600,000, making it one of the most valuable modern British coins ever sold.

The four silver coins, which have hand-enameling in the design of Paul’s psychedelic Magic Piano, sold for $38,400 each, way above their $5,400 value.

All of the coins came with a certificate of authenticity signed by McCartney.

Foreigner is headed up north this fall for a Canadian tour that will feature the band fronted by guest vocalist Geordie Brown, who is quite familiar with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band’s music.

Brown starred as the male lead in the workshop production of the Foreigner musical, Juke Box Hero, The Musical, during its runs in Calgary in 2018, and Toronto in 2019.

“I was most impressed by Geordie’s performances of Juke Box Hero, The Musical in Canada,” Foreigner founding member Mick Jones shares. “He is not only a consummate vocalist, but a verified Broadway actor to boot. We look forward to welcoming him at our shows on Foreigner’s 2025 Canadian tour.”

The tour will actually serve as a lead-up to the launch of Juke Box Hero, The Musical, which is scheduled to go into production next year.

Foreigner’s Canadian tour is set to kick off Oct. 21 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and wrap Nov. 7 in Kelowna, British Columbia. The band’s next U.S. show is June 11 in Highland, California.
