Elton John made an appearance at the New York Film Festival premiere of his upcoming Disney+ documentary, Elton John: Never Too Late Tuesdaywhere he treated the crowd to a performance of his classic “Tiny Dancer.”

People reports that while speaking to the audience after the screening, Elton joked about his many health ailments over the years.

“To be honest with you, there’s not much of me left. I don’t have tonsils, adenoids or an appendix. I don’t have a prostate,” he said. “I don’t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee. In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip. But I’m still here.”

He went on to thank his family — husband David Furnish, who co-directed the film with RJ Cutler, and his two sons, Zachary and Elijah — “for making me the happiest man in the world.”

“I found complete and utter happiness and bliss when I met David and when I had my children, our children. And it satisfied me so much,” he said. “I’ve never felt happiness like I have now.”

Elton John: Never Too Late details Elton’s extraordinary music career and complicated personal life, and follows the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer as he prepares for his final concert in North America at LA’s Dodger Stadium. It’s set to premiere Dec. 13 on Disney+.

Report: Pink Floyd sells catalog for $400 million

Report: Pink Floyd sells catalog for $400 million

Looks like the long-in-the works deal to sell Pink Floyd’s catalog has finally happened.

The Financial Times reports that the band has agreed to sell the recording rights to their catalog to Sony for a reported $400 million. The deal covers the copyrights only to the band’s recorded music, not their songwriting. It also includes rights to the band’s name and “likeness,” which can cover things like merchandising and possible movies.

This isn’t the first time Pink Floyd’s catalog has been the subject of sale talks; in 2022 several companies were reportedly interested but the sale was put on hold, with infighting between band members, particularly David Gilmour and Roger Waters, getting in the way of a deal.

The paper notes that Gilmour and Sony did not comment on the deal, and Waters was unavailable for comment.

Pink Floyd, made up of Gilmour, Waters, Nick Mason and the late Richard Wright, is one of the bestselling rock bands around, thanks to albums like The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall and more. They have sold more than 250 million records worldwide.

On This Day, Oct. 2, 1982: Genesis reunites with Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett

On This Day, Oct. 2, 1982: Genesis reunites with Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett

On This Day, Oct. 2, 1982…

Genesis reunited with ex-singer Peter Gabriel and ex-guitarist Steve Hackett for a benefit concert at the Milton Keynes Bowl in Buckinghamshire, England.

It was the first time either had played with the band since their departures from Genesis: Gabriel left in 1975 and Hackett in 1977. It was also the last time Gabriel performed any of the band’s songs.

The beneficiary of the concert was Gabriel, who was close to financial ruin after the failure of his World of Music, Arts and Dance (WOMAD) Festival. The money bailed him out, and he went on to stage the festival for the next 40 years.

Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford played their last Genesis show in March 2022 in London. Gabriel was in attendance for the show, but did not join the band on stage.

Paul McCartney kicked off the latest leg of his Got Back tour in Montevideo, Uruguay, and treated fans to the live debut of the latest tune from The Beatles, “Now and Then.”

According to setlist.fm, McCartney broke out the tune about halfway through his set. Fan-shot footage reveals that as he played, the video for the song, which featured archival footage of The Beatles, was projected on the screen behind him.

Released in November, “Now and Then,” featured vocals John Lennon recorded on a demo in the late ’70s, along with new recordings from McCartney and Ringo Starr, and guitar parts George Harrison recorded in the ’90s during the sessions for their Anthology series. The song, said to be the final Beatles tune, debuted at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at #1 in the U.K.

As for the rest of the show, McCartney opened with The Beatles’ classic “A Hard Day’s Night” and played such classic tunes as “Maybe I’m Amazed,” “Love Me Do,” “Jet,” “Band on the Run,” “Live and Let Die,” “Get Back,” “Hey Jude,” “Blackbird” and “I’ve Got A Feeling,” which was a duet with video of Lennon.

Next up, McCartney brings his Got Back tour to Buenos Aires on Oct. 5. A complete list of dates can be found at paulmccartney.com.

The Who’s “Behind Blue Eyes” covered by pop star Camila Cabello

Pop star Camila Cabello has shared her take on The Who classic “Behind Blue Eyes,” which appears in the trailer for the video game Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred.

While the original song, from the band’s 1971 album, Who’s Next, is dark and moody, Camila’s take is even darker and moodier. Her cover is a shortened version of the song, without the more rocking chorus.

“I hadn’t heard it before. That was what made me so excited to work with Diablo,” Camila tells Rolling Stone. “I was like, ‘Wow, this is one of the greatest songs of all time.'”

“Behind Blue Eyes” was originally written to be sung from the point of view of a character in a concept album project called Lifehouse, which The Who later abandoned.

Camila tells Rolling Stone the idea that she could introduce her fans to the song was “one of the most fun parts” of recording it. She adds, “I also feel like as a writer, it makes you better, too, because it’s always your hope to make a song like that.”

Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred arrives Oct. 8.

Record Store Day names Pearl Jam’s “Waiting for Stevie” as Song of the Year
ABC

Record Store Day has named Pearl Jam‘s “Waiting for Stevie” as its 2024 Song of the Year.

“The sentiment behind the music, and the fact that it’s just an overall amazing rock track that transcends when performed live, makes ‘Waiting for Stevie’ an easy pick for RSD Song of the Year,” says RSD co-founder Michael Kurtz.

To celebrate the honor, an exclusive 12-inch single featuring a live version of “Waiting for Stevie” recorded during a May show in Seattle will be released on Record Store Day Black Friday, taking place Nov. 29. The single’s B-side includes a live rendition of the song “Wreckage” from a May Las Vegas concert.

Both “Waiting for Stevie” and “Wreckage” appear on Pearl Jam’s new album, Dark Matter.
