The Who is being immortalized with a set of stamps issued by the Royal Mail.

The collection celebrates the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s 60th anniversary and features 12 stamps made up of popular Who album covers, as well as group publicity shots and live performance photos.

Covers featured in the collection include 1965’s My Generation, 1969’s Tommy, 1972’s Who’s Next, 1973’s Quadrophenia, 1978’s Who Are You, 1981’s Face Dances, 2006’s Endless Wire and 2019’s WHO.

Live shots are taken from the band’s 1967 concert at the Marquee Club and from a 1973 performance at Kings Hall in Belle Vue, Manchester.

“Stamp! Stamp! Stamp! It’s what I’ve done on stage all my life, sometimes in the air,” The Who’s Pete Townshend shares. “At last my stamping, and that of my buddy Roger, has been honored properly, and will help letters, parcels and birthday cards travel through time and space, just as we have.”

Roger Daltrey adds, “The artwork on the album sleeves was almost as important to the success of the record as the music. It’s great to be reminded of them.”

The stamps are available starting Oct. 17 but can be preordered at royalmail.com.

On This Day, Oct. 3, 1949: Fleetwood Mac star Lindsey Buckingham was born

On This Day, Oct. 3, 1949: Fleetwood Mac star Lindsey Buckingham was born

On This Day, Oct. 3, 1949…

Lindsey Buckingham, former singer, lead guitarist and songwriter for Fleetwood Mac, was born in Palo Alto, California.

Before joining Fleetwood Mac, Buckingham and his then-girlfriend Stevie Nicks recorded together as Buckingham Nicks, releasing their debut album in September 1973.

In 1974, Mick Fleetwood invited Lindsey to join Fleetwood Mac, but he would only join if Stevie was with him. The addition of the pair led to huge commercial success for Fleetwood Mac, with the first album featuring the duo, 1975’s self-titled release, going to #1, and the follow-up, Rumours, also topping the chart and becoming the band’s bestselling album.

Buckingham is responsible for writing such Fleetwood Mac classics as “Go Your Own Way,” “Never Going Back Again,” “Tusk” and “Big Love.”

Buckingham was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Fleetwood Mac in 1998.

He left and rejoined Fleetwood Mac several times over the years, with his last departure coming in April 2018, when he says he was fired from the group over a disagreement about touring.

He has also released several solo albums, his last being 2021’s self-titled release.

Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith are taking part in a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne during the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

The performance will also feature Wolfgang Van Halen, Jelly Roll, Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, Black Label Society frontman and Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde, producer Andrew Watt, Billy Idol and Steve Stevens. Jack Black will also make an appearance.

“It’s not a Shot In the Dark to say that this tribute is about to be legendary,” the Rock Hall declares.

It has not been announced whether or not Ozzy himself will perform. The Prince of Darkness hasn’t played a full live set since New Year’s Eve 2018 due to a variety of health issues, though he has performed songs here and there for various events in recent years.

The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction takes pace Oct. 19 and streams live on Disney+. The other inductees include Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang and A Tribe Called Quest, as well as Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick and Norman Whitfield with the Musical Excellence Award, and Alexis Korner, John Mayall and Big Mama Thornton with the Musical Influence Award.

Chrissie Hynde art exhibit to open in London

Aldara Zarraoa/Redferns

Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde is getting ready to show off her art at a special exhibition opening in London in November.

The exhibition, Hynde Sight, is set to run from Nov. 2 to Dec. 14 at the Broadbent Gallery. The description reveals that the collection “abounds with colour, texture and urgency, showcasing Chrissie’s dynamic still life, abstract work and self-portraits in vibrant oils.”

“What was a meditative practice had turned into something more substantial and could not now be ignored,” Chrissie shares of her art. “Like lyrics for a song waiting to be written, the paintings kept accumulating, wanting to be seen. Writing the will would have to wait; action needed to be taken — the paintings would have to be dealt with.”

More info can be found at broadbentgallery.com.

The Pretenders are currently on a European tour, but it seems Chrissie has been under the weather. The singer took to social media to apologize to fans who caught their show in Munich Monday, with Hynde describing it as “one of the worst performances of my career.” The band then canceled their concert in Lyon, France, Wednesday due to “illness within the band.”

Their next show is scheduled for Oct. 11 in Portsmouth, England. A complete list of dates can be found at thepretenders.com.

Jon Bon Jovi has once again been recognized by his native New Jersey. The rocker revealed on Instagram that Sayreville High School renamed its performing arts center after him Tuesday. It will now be known as the Jon Bon Jovi Performing Arts Center and Music Suite.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, who was once a student at the school, shared a picture of him posing next to the renamed building, along with photos with students, sharing that he was “humbled” by the honor.

“Thanks to the students who painted this mural and the faculty who made this day so special,” he wrote. “Once a Bomber always a Bomber.”

“If you remember one thing from our meeting today, know this, you are writing the story of your life,” Jon told students, according to MyCentralJersey.com. “Make it a great one, so that one day you can say, ‘Who says you can’t go home? There’s only one place they call me one of their own,'” a reference to Bon Jovi‘s hit song “Who Says You Can’t Go Home.”

Producer of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours’ sues over play ‘Stereophonic’

Producer of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours’ sues over play ‘Stereophonic’
Warner Records

The Tony Award-winning play Stereophonic, which opened on Broadway in Aprilis loosely based on the making of Fleetwood Mac’s iconic album Rumours, and now one of the producers associated with the album is suing over it.

Ken Caillat, who co-produced Rumours, has filed a lawsuit against the writer and producers of Stereophonic, alleging the play used portions of his 2013 book, Making Rumours: The Inside Story Of The Classic Fleetwood Mac Album, without permission.

In the suit, which was also filed on behalf of Caillat’s co-author Steven Stiefel, the pair claim Stereophonic “copies the heart and soul of Making Rumours, and is substantially similar,” noting they didn’t authorize the play’s writer, David Adjmito “copy, reproduce, or create a fictional adaptation or derivative work of their book.”

“The striking similarity is readily apparent right from the beginning of the show,” the suit notes, pointing to Stereophonic’s setting of a recording studio, with the audience watching from the perspective of the engineers and producers.

“The set of Stereophonic essentially places the audience in the very chair where Mr. Caillat sat as he engineered and produced Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, as Plaintiffs vividly described in Making Rumours,” reads the suit.

It adds that while Adjmi claims the show isn’t about the making of Rumours or based on Caillat’s book, the play “presents a nearly identical story arc” as the book.

The plaintiffs are suing for copyright infringement and are seeking to recover damages, profits, attorneys fees and costs, noting they may also look for an injunction to stop the performance of Stereophonic “if necessary.”

Caillat, father of singer Colbie Caillat, recently gave an interview with The New Yorker, where he detailed the similarities of his book and the play, including portions of dialogue he believes were taken right from his book.
