Longtime David Bowie producer Tony Visconti is sharing details of the final conversation he had with Bowie before his January 2016 death from liver cancer.

“He said, ‘I’ve got something to tell you.’ And he was whispering to me on the phone,” Visconti tells the New York Post. “I said, ‘I can’t hear you. Speak up!’ He goes into another room, and he says, ‘I’m going to be a grandfather.’”

Bowie’s son with ex-wife Angie Bowie, director Duncan Jones, had been expecting his first child. The child was born after Bowie’s death and was named Stenton David Jones after the rocker.

Visconti also shares that despite being ill, Bowie had already been thinking about his next record.

“He told me that he was going to make another album he started writing,” Visconti says. “And I said, ‘Oh, I can’t wait to hear,’ and he goes, ‘Yeah, well, right after we get over the holidays, we’ll get together, and I’ll let you hear the music.’ But that was the last time I ever heard from him.”

Bowie’s final album, Blackstar, which was produced by Visconti, was released on Jan. 8, 2016, his 69th birthday. He died two days later.

“I don’t like to think about him dying at all, because, you know, he’s so vibrant, and he’s still alive in spirit and his music,” Visconti shares. “Generations are going to grow up and rediscover him, his records will keep selling and selling, and young kids will discover and be inspired by him.”

In August of 2024, Rod Stewart was supposed to perform the 200th show of his Las Vegas residency, Rod Stewart: The Hits, at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, but it was canceled after he came down with strep throat. On Wednesday, Rod returned to Vegas and finally got to perform that milestone 200th show — as he kicked off his new residency at the Colosseum, The Encore Shows.

According to People, Rod’s achievement was celebrated onstage with a gold record, presented to him by a Caesars executive.  A tray of his signature Wolfie’s Whisky was also brought out, and Rod did a shot right then and there.

Rod’s new Encore Shows are scheduled to run through June 8, but it could be extended. The setlist is slightly different from The Hits residency, which ran from 2011 to 2024. In addition to all his biggest songs, Rod also performed his popular 1971 album cut “Mandolin Wind,” as well as some different cover songs, like “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes.

Heart’s Nancy Wilson on the band’s return to the stage: ‘It’s a little sweeter now’

Heart’s Nancy Wilson on the band’s return to the stage: ‘It’s a little sweeter now’

After Heart had to postpone their Royal Flush tour in 2024 so Ann Wilson could undergo cancer treatment, the band finally launched the tour in February. But there was one little snag prior to the launch.

Just days before the first show, Ann fell and broke her elbow in three places. Sister and bandmate Nancy Wilson says one of their first thoughts was, “Oh, no, we’re not canceling.”

Instead, Ann has been performing shows in a wheelchair. And considering all she’s been through, Nancy says audiences have just been great, sharing, “People are pulling for Ann and rooting for us.”

“The vibe is wonderful. I think they’ve just been sweeter than ever because they know that Ann’s been through so much,” she adds.

The Royal Flush tour sets have included a mix of Heart classics, deep cuts and even some covers, and Nancy says it isn’t always easy to choose what to play.

“There’s just a lot of cool songs. It’s a good problem to have,” she says. “People love a lot of these songs. It’s the soundtrack to their life, right?”

And after 50 years of performing, Nancy has strong feelings about still being able to get up on the stage each night with her sister, sharing, “It’s a little sweeter now because of the obstacle course we have maneuvered and successfully traversed with the last few years.”

“It feels really rewarding to be able to get up there and do what we know how to do, and do it well still, and love doing it,” she says. “We’re feeling really blessed and having a kick-a** fun time doing it.”

Heart’s Royal Flush tour hits Vancouver on Thursday. A complete list of dates can be found at heart-music.com.

Paul McCartney supports PETA campaign against Peet’s vegan milk surcharge

Paul McCartney is lending his support to a new PETA campaign that’s trying to get Peet’s Coffee to stop charging extra for plant-based milk options.

Peet’s currently charges 80 cents extra for vegan milks. McCartney, a longtime vegetarian, is speaking out, sending a letter to Peet’s Coffee President and CEO Eric Lauterbach to try to get him to change his stance on the charge.

“I must say this [vegan milk upcharge] surprised me as I understand that your company is committed to reducing methane emissions and water waste, yet cow’s milk significantly contributes to them,” McCartney wrote in his letter. “I would like to politely request that you consider dropping the upcharge on plant milks, just as Starbucks and Dunkin’ have recently done.”

He added, “I sincerely hope that for the future of the planet and animal welfare you are able to implement this policy.”

In addition to the letter, McCartney is set to appear in a nationwide PETA campaign against the Peet’s upcharge, launching March 17. He’ll also be featured in a billboard going up outside the Peet’s location in Oakland, California, which just happens to be near the Peet’s corporate headquarters.

Decades after infamous RHCP quote, Nick Cave recorded a song with Flea

In case you were wondering, all is good between Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nick Cave.

That, of course, was not always the case. The “Red Right Hand” rocker was infamously quoted as calling the “Under the Bridge” band’s music “garbage.” But 25 years later, he has warmer feelings for the Peps, especially regarding bassist Flea.

In the latest entry in his Red Hand Files blog, Cave describes his initial remark as “offhand and somewhat uncharitable,” noting that “it was just the sort of obnoxious thing I would say back then to piss people off.”

“There was no malice intended,” Cave maintains, though he realized he still may have caused some when Flea shared a response.

“Flea expressed how hurt he felt by my remark, but went on to say, in great detail, that he loved my music regardless,” Cave says. “I remember being genuinely moved by his words and thinking what a classy guy Flea was, and feeling on some subterranean level that I was unable to fully grasp at that point in my life, that Flea was a human being of an entirely different [caliber], indeed, of a higher order.”

Over the years Cave would cross paths with Flea, and they even played together live. Fast-forward to now, and Cave says he and Flea are working together on a collaboration with him singing over the bassist’s trumpet playing.

“It is not for me to divulge what the song was, only that it is a song I cherish more than most, with arguably the greatest lyric ever written, a song of such esteem that I would never have dared to sing it had Flea not asked me to,” Cave says.

The long-awaited sequel to This Is Spinal Tap now has a release date.

Variety reports that the film, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, which reunites director Rob Reiner with stars Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer, will be released Sept. 12.

According to reports, the sequel will follow the band as they reunite after 15 years for a final concert. It will feature cameos from Paul McCartneyElton JohnGarth Books, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich and more.

In addition to the new film, a newly restored version of the original will be released in theaters this summer, followed by a digital and streaming platform release.

Magnolia Pictures

After getting a quick teaser of the new John Lennon/Yoko Ono documentary on Tuesday, a full trailer for the film One to One: John & Yoko is now out.

The trailer opens with a recording of Lennon leaving a phone message, and the person on the other end of the line asking him to spell his name and then adding, “Are you a member of The Beatles?”

The film, directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Kevin Macdonald, follows the 18 months John and Yoko lived in New York’s Greenwich Village in the early ’70s. At one point in the trailer Lennon is heard saying, “I just got to see the Village for the first time. I really feel at home there.”

Yoko is also heard talking about how she’d been treated by the public, noting, “I was considered a b**** in this society. Since I met John I was upgraded into a witch.” It’s followed by an audio clip of John sharing about Yoko, “I fell in love with an independent, creative genius. I started waking up.”

The trailer features a variety of archival footage of the pair, with the film culminating with their 1972 One to One concerts, Lennon’s only full-length performances after The Beatles’ 1970 breakup. The trailer also includes video footage from the shows, including Lennon performing “Imagine.”

It ends with someone asking, “How would you like to be remembered?” to which Lennon replies, “Just as two lovers.”

One to One: John & Yoko is set to open exclusively in IMAX theaters on April 11. Tickets are on sale now.
