Star-studded hard-rock band The Dead Daisies are known for including memorable classic-rock covers in their live sets and on their studio albums, and now the group has gathered some of these performances in a new compilation called Locked and Loaded that will be released on August 23.
Among the songs featured on the record are renditions of The Beatles‘ “Helter Skelter” and “Revolution,” The Rolling Stones‘ “Bitch,” The Who‘s “Join Together,” Creedence Clearwater Revival‘s “Fortunate Son” and Grand Funk Railroad‘s “We’re an American Band.”
Locked and Loaded will be available as a DigiPak CD, a colored-vinyl LP packaged with a CD, a digital download and via streaming services.
“This is a ‘tip of the hat’ to our heroes, bands that influenced us when we use to buy their records as teenagers,” explains Dead Daisies and one-time Motley Crue frontman John Corabi. “Now we’ve put them all on one album and it seriously rocks!! You may think of us as ‘Rock Stars’ but at the end of the day we’re just huge music fans!”
The album includes two previously unreleased tracks, live versions of Neil Young‘s “Rockin’ in the Free World” and Deep Purple‘s “Highway Star.”
Locked and Loaded features contributions from the various Dead Daisies lineups. Besides Corabi, the musicians who play or have played include ex-Journey drummer Deen Castronovo, Thin Lizzy/one-time Whitesnake bassist Marco Mendoza, former Whitesnake guitarist Doug Aldrich, Guns N’ Roses keyboardist Dizzy Reed, GN’R guitarist Richard Fortus and ex-Whitesnake and Billy Idol drummer Brian Tichy.
