ABC/Randy HolmesNorthern Europe loves its heavy metal, as evidenced by Metallica‘s record-breaking show Tuesday in Hämeenlinna, Finland.

According to Live Nation Finland, 55,000 people attended the metal legends’ sold-show at Kantola Event Park, breaking the venue’s attendance record. It was also Metallica’s biggest show ever in Finland.

That 55,000 figure is about one percent of Finland’s overall population of 5.5 million. For perspective, one percent of the U.S. population — 330 million — is 3.3 million.

While in Finland, Metallica also donated 55,000 euros — nearly $62,000 — to the children’s charity Hope.
