Drive This Way: Aerosmith reunited with old tour van in new episode of "American Pickers"
Written by Classic Rock 93.9 on July 8, 2019
Aerosmith is featured on the latest episode of the History channel series American Pickers, which premieres tonight at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
On the show, American Pickers hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz reunite the rock legends with the vintage van the band used during its early years. Wolfe and Fritz restored the vehicle and drove it to the Park MGM, the Las Vegas venue where the group has been playing residency gigs this year.
The van, a 1964 International Harvester Metro featuring an early version of Aerosmith’s logo and a hippie character painted on the side, was discovered recently on the property of a Chesterfield, Massachusetts, resident who’d lived there since 2005.
A previous episode of American Pickers that aired in July 2018 focused on the discovery of the vehicle, which Wolfe and Fritz purchased for $25,000.
You can check out a preview of tonight’s episode on History.com and on the network’s YouTube channel. The clip shows the Aerosmith members reacting to seeing the restored version of the van. Guitarist Joe Perry declares, “I think it’s f****** amazing,” while drummer Joey Kramer says, “I had some of my fondest memories in this van.”
Frontman Steven Tyler adds, “To find the damn thing and bring it to us — what a hand-off!”
