Dave Grohl: "There is no one else like Krist Novoselic"

Foo Fighters will host the second edition of their CalJam festival on October 6, and in addition to big names like Iggy Pop, Tenacious D, and Garbage, the lineup also includes the band Giants in the Trees, which features Dave Grohl‘s ex-Nirvana band mate Krist Novoselic.
Speaking with Uproxx, Grohl explains what it means to have Novoselic on the CalJam lineup.
“Krist Novoselic and I are friends that also happen to play instruments,” Grohl says. “And, also, we were in Nirvana. But first and foremost, the two of us are friends. There’s a lot of love and a lot of years behind us.”
The Foo Fighters frontman, who, of course, also was Nirvana’s drummer, contnues, “[Krist’s] new band is rad and when he starts a new band, he’ll send down the music and I’ll check it out. I haven’t seen them play yet, but just being able to share that together…We have new bands, and we get to play together on the same bill. What can be better than that?”
Since Nirvana ended, Novoselic has pursued a host of non-musical projects — for example, he’s the Board Chair for electoral reform organization FairVote.
“He’s a really interesting dude, you’ve never met anyone like him,” Grohl says. “There is no one else like Krist Novoselic in the f****** world. When we get together, more than anything, it’s just sharing love with an old friend. I’m f****** psyched that he’s playing.”
